Introduction to IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a language test designed to evaluate the language skills of candidates who need to study or work in an English speaking country. It is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. It is accepted by universities and employers in many countries. It is also acknowledged by immigration authorities, professional bodies, and many government authorities.
IELTS TEST Format
There are four modules, to the IELTS test: Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening. All students take the same Listening and Speaking tests but they sit different Reading and Writing tests according to selected Academic or General Training Modules. The IELTS examination day format will be taken in the following way:
IELTS Listening takes about 30 minutes. There are four sections, played on CD player, in order of increasing difficulty. A section may be a monologue or a dialogue. The questions for each section must be answered while listening despite time is given for students to check their answers.
IELTS Reading lasts about 60 minutes. Students are given an Academic Reading test, or a General Training Reading test. Both tests have three sections, and again in both tests the sections are in order of increasing difficulty.
IELTS Writing also takes about 60 minutes. Students have to do two writing tasks with different styles of writing and there is no choice of question topics.
IELTS Speaking consists of a one-to-one interview with a British Council trained teacher. The interview is recorded and including three different parts: The interview will last for about 12-14 minutes.
